Simple Method of Fixing a Car Paint Scratch Yourself

Car scratches are an un-avoided part of driving that occurs anytime, irrespective of how good you can go. Scratches can be very annoying, especially if you recently purchased a vehicle, seeing scratches on one’s car.

Car paint scratches can result in o many reasons like accidents, vandalization of cars, wrong parking, and other unforeseen circumstances.

1. Surface paint scratches

In this form of scratches, the effects are minor compared to other states. They are not hard to fix when it occurs. This form of scratches is believed to be the easiest to fix. The surface paint scratches do not need any form of repainting whatsoever.

2.  Clear Coat paint scratches

Coat paint scratches in the form of scratches that go deep into the car’s enamel layer—getting off these scratches requires just not too hard to do step-by-step guides. Some kits which possess different repainting products are acquired. 

3. Internal paint scratches

Internal scratches are forms of scratches that are very deep into the inner part of the car body. In this case, some special techniques must be followed to get the desired results. Cleaning, filling, application of a new form of paint, clear coating, and buffing. It is best to allow an expert to help fix these scratches, but individuals who can keep to details can also handle the procedure without stress.

Fixing a surface paint scratches

Using toothpaste is the simplest method of fixing surface paint scratches. First, test how deep the gash is on the car using your fingers as the testing tool. If the result shows scratches on the fingers, you can follow the next steps.


1. Wash the affected surface area very well with clean water. Could you leave it to dry for about 10 minutes?

2. Make sure the dirt or debris from the scratched surface is not getting between.

3. Then, use a fiber cloth or towel and apply the toothpaste to the surface of the fiber cloth. 

N.B: Whitening toothpaste is preferable in fixing this scratch, but any paste can still do a good job.

4. Applied the paste to the fiber cloth on the scratched area and did the process gently and circularly. If you need to apply some bit of pressure during the application processes 

5. Wash any excess paste on the affected area, wash it off, and dry up.

6. You can repeat the process many times to achieve desirable results

Fixing a Clear Coat scratches

As earlier said, evident coat scratches are hard to fix in car paint scratches. All that is required is followed due procedures to achieve the definite desire. A car polishing product will be applied to improve this kind of scratch in a car. 


1. Before fixing any form, ensure the affected surface area is well cleaned. Use clean water and soap to remove the debris from the affected area.

2. Use the already purchased product kits

3. Applied the product to fiber cloth and spread the effect on the fiber cloth.

4. Gently apply the already soaked fiber cloth to the affected area and move your hands in a circular motion. 

5. Continue gently for at least 7 – 10 minutes until the result is shown.

6. Use a clean fiber cloth to remove the excess from the car surface. Repeat the process many times to achieve the desired result.

N.B: do not allow the product to dry off on the car surface.

Fixing Internal paint scratches

Internal scratch in a car is mostly not advisable to handle by yourself. Fixing this kind of scratches can be done by leveling up the surroundings of the scratched surface. In some cases, it involves the total removal of the ground surface with the cleat coat in the affected areas.


1. Before fixing any form, ensure the affected surface area is well cleaned. Use clean water and soap to remove the debris from the affected area.

2. Scratch off the surface paint of the affected place with sandpaper. Follow this process for at least 9 minutes.

3. Rinse the area off with clean water

4. Make use of clean clothes to dry them off

5. Then, apply a primer to the affected area. Leave for about 7 mins

6. Then spray paint the same car color on the affected area. Apply wax to the affected area
